Insurance and reinsurance broker Aon has promoted Ciaran Healy to the role of Global Captive Leader within the firm’s Commercial Risk Solutions division. In this position, Healy will be responsible for managing insurance-linked securities (ILS) and protected cell structures as well.

Effective January 1st, 2025, Healy will take on this role, succeeding John English, who has moved to Chairman of Aon Global Risk Consulting (AGRC). Healy, who has a background in AGRC, previously held the position of Chief Commercial Officer.

As Global Captive Leader, Healy will focus on accelerating Aon’s core capabilities for clients, including captive management, captive advisory, captive reinsurance, insurance-linked securities, and protected cell companies. Aon Insurance Managers, the division that establishes and manages these structures across various domiciles, will now fall under his oversight.

Aon Insurance Managers is one of the leading managers of ILS vehicles globally, managing special purpose insurers (SPI) and other structures for catastrophe bond issuance, as well as protected and segregated cell companies used for collateralized reinsurance and other capital market-backed arrangements. In this role, Healy will lead a team of over 500 Aon employees across North America and the EMEA regions, based in Dublin and reporting to Richard Waterer, Global Leader of AGRC.

Waterer commented on the promotion, stating, “Ciaran is a highly effective, client-centric, and commercially driven leader with extensive experience. His leadership will help build on the momentum we’re seeing in the captive space and the increasingly critical role captives will play in Aon’s broader Risk Capital strategy across reinsurance and commercial risk. Under Ciaran’s direction, Aon’s captive team will continue to deliver innovation as clients increasingly look to alternative options outside the traditional insurance market to protect and grow their businesses.
